If you don’t have access, please call the school to obtain your login information for Powerschool. Social StudiesScholars will be studing the ancient Greeks. They will explore the geography of Greece, military conquests of Alexander the Great, the Trojan War, Peloponnesian Wars, conflict and differences between Athens and Sparta, and types of governments. They are building upon their prior knowledge of the 7 characteristics that build and maintain a civilization. Scholars will complete their IB unit task of creating an Ancient Greece Newspaper, prior to the end of the quarter. They will continue to investigate how civilizations yearn for power and what that looks like in Greece and in our democracy today. Why do civilizations expand and what is the result of their expansion? Why do people need government? How do people get the things they want and need? What are the technological impacts on modern society from Ancient Greece? The theme for this unit is: "The sustainability of societies require global interactions, resulting in conflict and compromise during expansion." Scholars will begin their study of Ancient Rome at the end of the month, focusing on how Rome started as a republic and grew into an empire. Julius Caesar and Augustus will be among the important leaders scholars follow. We will end the month comparing inventions the Greeks passed down to the Romans and how the Romans improved upon them as they passed them down to us, even after the Roman Empire fell.
